Central Forest Spine Ecological Linkages Master Plan 2022

The official reference guide for coordinated and environmentally responsible planning and development within the Central Forest Spine (CFS) area..

PIRECFS 2022 —
An Essential Reference for All Stakeholders

PIRECFS 2022 serves as a reference for policymakers, developers, planners, researchers, NGOs and communities involved in the management of CFS areas.

The Master Plan provides guidance for protecting forest habitats, maintaining wildlife connectivity and reducing the impacts of development on biodiversity.

PIRECFS 2022 Volumes

The Central Forest Spine Ecological Linkages Master Plan (PIRECFS) 2022 is presented in two volumes. Volume 1 outlines conservation strategies for the CFS and ecological linkages, while Volume 2 provides eight state-level reports. Both volumes should be read together for a comprehensive understanding of PIRECFS 2022.

PIRECFS 2022 Executive Summary

Conservation Strategies for the CFS and Ecological Linkages

12 CFS Conservation and Management Guidelines

Following a review of the guidelines in the 2010 Central Forest Spine Ecological Linkages Master Plan, 12 CFS conservation and management guidelines were developed to address the following areas:

Wildlife Crossing Guidelines

Guidance on the design and construction of dedicated wildlife crossings, including bridges and tunnels, to enable wildlife to cross roads safely.

Human–Wildlife Conflict Management Guidelines

Approaches to managing and mitigating conflicts between local communities and wildlife.

Guidelines for Preventing Illegal Hunting

Measures to prevent and combat illegal hunting within CFS areas.

Reforestation Guidelines

Guidance on restoring degraded forest areas through the planting of native tree species.

Aquatic Biodiversity Management Guidelines

Guidance on protecting river ecosystems and conserving freshwater biodiversity within the CFS.

Riparian Zone Management Guidelines

Guidance on managing riparian buffer zones to protect river ecosystems and provide habitat for wildlife.

Electricity Transmission Line Development Guidelines

Environmental requirements for the planning and development of electricity transmission lines passing through CFS areas.

Conservation Agriculture Zone (CAZ) Guidelines

Guidance on environmentally responsible agricultural practices in areas adjacent to ecological linkages.

Mining Site Rehabilitation Guidelines

Guidance on rehabilitating mining sites to restore ecological functions and minimise environmental impacts.

Peatland Conservation Guidelines

Guidance on protecting peatland areas as important carbon stores and water resources.

Tourism Development Guidelines

Guidance on sustainable ecotourism development without compromising natural ecosystems.

Human Settlement and Village Development Guidelines

Guidance on managing settlement and village expansion while maintaining the ecological integrity of the CFS.

All CFS Documents in One Place

Access CFS documents, guidelines, reports and related resources in one place to make information easier to find and support the effective implementation and understanding of CFS initiatives.

Apakah perbezaan Rangkaian Utama dan Sekunder?

Rangkaian Utama

Jalur hutan tanpa putus yang menyambung terus dua kompleks hutan besar, menjadi laluan utama haiwan besar seperti Harimau dan Gajah.

Rangkaian Sekunder

Rangkaian “batu loncatan” hutan kecil yang menyambung kawasan terpisah ke Rangkaian Utama, melintasi ladang dan kawasan penduduk.

What is the difference between Primary Linkage and Secondary Linkage?

Primary Linkage

A continuous forest corridor that directly connects two major forest complexes, providing a primary movement route for large wildlife such as tigers and elephants.

Secondary Linkage

A network of small forest “stepping stones” that connects isolated areas to a Primary Linkage across plantations and settlements.
